Neat Person of the Day: Melissa Gilbert

CUTLINE — Actress Melissa Gilbert visits with 10-year-old cancer sufferer Olivia Ward at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio, October 14, 2007. Best known for her ‘Little House on the Prairie’ television role in the 1970s, Gilbert is part of a health coalition kicking off a national campaign next week to improve care for seriously ill and dying children.

OK, Melissa Gilbert is still hot, in that girl-next-door sorta way. But she’s obviously one of those near people for whom being useful and helpful isn’t a marketing campaign.
